Dried roses in a vase
Trying to preserve
A fragrant moment
That has lost its aroma
The color has faded
from radiant ruby
to deathly dark
The smell is flat
Lacking vibrancy
like a soda that has lost its effervescence
The petals no longer
Stroke the nose
Like a velvet lover
but instead scratch it
like a cat’s claw
Bury the dead
Watch new sprouts
fed with fertilizer
of past experience
Break through the soil
Burst into violets
satisfy the senses
where corpses cannot
And let the sun nourish the living
