Sitting on rocks
Gazing across water
at train tracks and buildings and blue sky
A perfect picture
Minus the empty space beside him
It was only last night she said goodbye
In the blink of an eye
A year and a half passed
from her first steps toward him
to watching her walk away
With another drop of his eyelash curtain
His play will be over
He finds comfort
Knowing that when he sees her again
From the wider vantage point
Without eyes’ limitations
he will not feel sadness or anger or regret
Only love for the woman
Who came into his life
At the right time
And left
At the right time
Even if it didn’t feel right
At the time
